INTERIOR DESIGN F.A.Q.’s

  1. I’ve never worked with an interior designer before, will you take me on as a new client?

Our clients usually fall in two common categories:

Group #1: Many have never worked with a designer previously but have arrived at the point where they are tired of making all the wrong decisions; they have great ideas and created several Pinterest Boards, but now need a professional to guide them and edit their numerous ideas into a final design; or they have no idea where to begin and can not envision how to design their space.

Group #2: Several of our clients had one or more disappointing experiences with other designers. Sometimes the other designer lacked experience; some took advantage of the client; some failed at delivering the overall aesthetic goals for the client.

Entering a relationship when we’re the 2nd or 3rd designer causes a little pause as it could be unrealistic expectations, timeline or budget, but each time it turned into a trusting, respectful and long-lasting client-designer relationship; not that we were a better designer necessarily, but we were a better fit for that particular project.

At Lisa Jensen Interior Design we believe there is the right fit for every designer and every client out there so it is important for both parties to do their due diligence, as it is a two-way street and it’s important to share mutual goals and more to have a successful relationship and result.

When we find our ‘ideal client’ and they find us, it becomes a great collaboration for both of us. You can read many of their shared experiences on the Testimonials page.

  2. I want to renovate/remodel/update/refresh an outdated bathroom and kitchen, can you help me?*

    Yes!

You are smart to prepare before your project gets underway, to hire a professional, experienced interior decorator who can provide you with an overall plan so the difficult design decisions you’ll be faced with are made ahead of time!

We get calls all the time from homeowners in the middle of their project and their contractor is asking:

What floor tile do you want? Color? Tile size? Shape? Honed or polished? Pattern layout? Orientation in the room?

What grout color do you want to coordinate with it?

How wide do you want the grout lines to be?

What shower trim do you want to use? Brand/shape/size/finish?

Do you want wall sconces? One, two, or three-light? Above the mirror or flanking it?

What height do you want the sconces installed?

How far off the mirror do you want them installed?

Do you want a shampoo niche or a shelf in the shower? What size? What tile for the niche backdrop? Shelf material? Trim material?

There are SO MANY decisions that need to be made in a bathroom or kitchen design, most homeowners have no idea as to how to answer these questions and they get overwhelmed, stressed, and start making mistakes that are costly and won’t get them to their dream vision.

Lisa can create the new room design plan that will provide you with the answers to these questions and the majority of the design selections before they are requested by your contractor so your project will run smoother, faster, be less stressful, cost you less, and in the end provide you with a beautiful, timeless, and functional bathroom design that you can enjoy and as a bonus will add value to your home.

Lisa often book weeks or months out with her in-demand schedule, so don’t wait until the last minute. Get in touch today!

  3. What if we don’t like the room design plan you create for us?

The reason Lisa Jensen Interior Design specializes in her flat rate packed services is because of her 21 year track record. Lisa’s super power is the ability to listen closely, to ask the important and correct questions that only come from years of on-the-job-experience, and then get into her clients heads and understand exactly what they need.

Then with a careful understanding of her clients and what they want, she has the skills and work ethic to create the ‘perfect’ room design and decor plan for them.

Lisa’s process is unique to her design firm because it was all created by the designer years ago to highlight her own individual skill-set and expertise and bring those best parts of herself to her clients.

Her service comes with a proven track record that spans two decades of doing this work for over 1,000 Boston area homeowners, all of whom have green-lighted nearly 100% of her entire plan, on every project.

She includes a revision provision in the contract, but there is so much effort and cross-checking on her part for every design decision, for every product she designs, sources, and specifies, that when she ultimately chooses the best table lamp, or the optimal area rug, or the most appropriate shower tiles, that it almost never comes to a re-selection.

Last year, with Lisa’s schedule booked 100% throughout the entire year, she had one repeat client ask her to re-select a chandelier. The wife and Lisa both loved the White chandelier in the plan, but the husband wanted black and since this fixture was not available in that color Lisa had to source a new chandelier option for them. This was the only revision Lisa was asked to do after thousands of products specified during the entire calendar year. Read more client reviews here.

  4. I can’t seem to pick the right paint color, can you help me?

Yes. People have a hard time looking at those tiny paint manufacturer chips and trying to choose the best new paint colors from them. Sometimes they end up buying small paint samples and painting directly over their current wall color, but unfortunately this is not going to provide a realistic sampling.

Not only do we have a library of over-sized paint swatches to help you see the bigger picture, after we understand your goals we will select the optimal main paint color based on undertones, natural lighting, location, and other factors, and we’ll specify the right finish for the application, too.

In addition, we can choose the best trim color to pair with your new main paint color selection, and an accent color too if the room or your exterior home palette calls for it. Book a consultation today!

  5. My spouse and I have very different tastes and goals, can you help us?

This shouldn’t be a problem. Through many clients over the years, it’s more common for the couple to have divergent tastes and goals than mutual ones.

Our proprietary intake analysis covers this in depth, and then we have a process to create room designs that acknowledge the needs of everyone involved and ultimately pleases both parties.

Design is about balance, if nothing else, so this is our wheelhouse.

We have specific spouses who were quite skeptical to hire any designer at the start, and end up not only complimentary when they see what she can do, but become some of Lisa’s biggest fans, excited to hire her services in future projects.

That being said, we are not magicians or even the right designer for everyone out there so both spouses/partners should read through this website, view the Portfolio, read the About page, Services, and Testimonials to make sure we will be a good candidate for their project.

  6. We’re renovating our 2nd home up in Maine, can you help us from afar?

Yes! Many of our clients have second homes so clients who have grown accustomed to working with us in their homes outside of Boston have called on Lisa Jensen Interior Design to help with their second homes.

If the home or job site is withing driving distance we can make site visit arrangements and if it’s anywhere else in the USA we can work together remotely.

If it’s new constrcution we can meet locally or at the site and all we’ll need is a set of plans from the builder or architect.

After a site visit in person or remote, we’ll create the new room designs, draft floor plans to determine the best furniture scale and layout, design and select all of their finishes, fixtures, fabrics, furnishings, lighting, case goods, artwork, and beautiful accessories.

Keep in mind Lisa is a visionary, so she can see what doesn’t exist yet, and although this may be hard for homeowners to do themselves, it comes quite naturally to Lisa.

With Lisa’s vision and expertise she’ll create balanced, properly scaled, setting-appropriate, functional, and aesthetically pleasing room designs. View some Before & After projects here.
