How It Works:
We start with a 20-minute discovery phone call to discuss your project, get a sense of what you’re looking for and decide whether Full-Room Design is the best fit.
We schedule your initial intake consultation meeting which is required at the beginning of every project and paid for, prior to our visit.
Lisa is a quick-study. During this in-person meeting we’ll spend 2 hours assessing the room to be designed, the project needs, reviewing your Pinterest Boards/Inspiration, discussing preferences, goals, dislikes and much more, so we gain a thorough understanding of you. We’ll photograph, measure the room, architectural elements, and any furnishings you want to keep.
After the consult, with a thorough in-depth understanding of the project, we’ll furnish you with a contract for your Full Room Design. The flat design fee and signed contract are due before we provide a reserved spot on our calendar to design your room.
Once your signed contract and payment are received, we’ll reserve roughly 4 weeks on the calendar to work on your room design.
During those four weeks, we won’t be bothering you with questions, or seeking your input. The design development process is an intoverted, artistic process during which Lisa is busy trying to solve a puzzle and create something fitting for you, out of thin air. She’ll be trying many things, editing, revising, sourcing, creating, and mixing -until she is satisfied the room is just right - and just what you wanted.
Once the room design is complete, she will assemble a detailed Design Procurement Packet to make setting up your room very easy (like paint by numbers). There will be easy, clickable purchasing links, visual design board, shared names of trusted local contractors if your project needs custom window treatments, a painter, tile installer, or wallpaper hanger, and many room types will have a new floor plan.
You can expect to receive your new custom, curated plan in about 4 weeks from the start date, via environmentally-friendly email.
Most clients are so excited they order everything within a day or two!
A 30-minute phone call with Lisa is scheduled to hapen within 1 week, while the design project and details are still fresh in her mind.
HOW MUCH DOES FULL ROOM INTERIOR DESIGN COST?
The short answer: It will be a flat fee, but we need to understand your project and the variables first.
The long answer: Grab a coffee or tea, sit by the fireplace, curl up with your cat or dog in your lap, and read below:
Our clients appreciate our respectful, flat investment rate, up front transparent cost so they never worry about surprise hourly invoices from us, ever. They pay one time for Lisa’s design work and can then sit back and relax, knowing something beautiful and right for them is being created with a lot of love, care, expertise, and creative vision. Our track record speaks for itself, check out Lisa Jensen Interior Design’s client testimonials page. In fact, it was clients green lighting every project Lisa presented over and over, that led her to create her simplified, flat rate interior design services. After many years on the job figuring out what worked best for her clients, Lisa created her streamlined unique process that she continues offering today.
That said, for Full Room Designs, there are too many variables involved between project needs, client requests, and many other factors, to give just one cost for a Full Room Design to everyone, but we will give you some ideas below to make sure we’re in the same ballapark.
If after reading below we don’t sound too low, or too high, for you, then we’re probably going to be a good fit. The next step would be to submit our Contact Form to start the conversation. If we’re not the right fit, no worries and good luck with your project.
The first thing to note about our interior design pricing is that we’re not doing lower budget online e-designs here. We’re not doing cookie-cutter or basic room designs. We’re not a new, lesser-experienced designer. And we’re not churning out designs for the same type of room, over and over. There is nothing formulaic about our work. If you look at our portfolio, you will see every type of residential space from kitchens, bathrooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, living rooms, and home offices. You’ll also see styles ranging from Modern, Transitional, Traditional, Coastal, Farmhouse, Bohemian, Eclectic, Edgy, and more. There is also Lisa’s 23 years of skill development with hundreds of completed room designs over the past couple decades with hundreds of satisfied clients - many repeatedly hiring Lisa for over 15 years. A lot of time and effort goes into Lisa’s meticulous work, so we can tell you our Full Room Design in your home won’t be $999.
Unlike high-end, luxury-only design firms, we’re skilled at working in varying budget levels that range from modest, to mid-range, to luxury, and we don’t require our clients invest 6 figures to furnish just one room, or invest in all custom pieces. You will have the freedom to control your own furniture and decor budget. Lisa is respectful of her client’s money and is a master at knowing where to indulge, where to scale back, and choosing items that look like they are more than they are. Oftentimes, lower budgets make developing the Full Room Design more challenging, so a lower furnishings and decor budget does not mean a lower cost for the design service.
To give you a general idea of the investment for your personalized custom room design, separate from your furnishings and decor budget, a Full Room Design for a smaller, less complicated space, like a small entryway/foyer, or a very small, basic half bathroom, or only changing some key pieces in a living room or bathroom may be an investment in the ballpark of $1795-$2795, tbd.
A more typical Full Room Design for an average family or living room, dining room, bedroom, home office, study, kitchen, or bathroom could be in the ballpark of $3495 - $5495. That is for a Full Room Design planned out, even if we’re incorporating some of your existing pieces. Our clients receive final selections for colors, finishes, hardware, textiles, all large furniture pieces, small accent furnishings, rugs, lamps, chandeliers, artwork, art lights, window treatments and hardware, plants/planters, decorative items, accent pillows, throw blankets, baskets, etc., a 2D Layout for most spaces, a visual Style Board, and a comprehensive Procurement and Installation Guide with links to swiftly + easily purchase their new items and know exactly where to place them in the room. This is our way to give you a stress-free, completely personalized, custom new room - without the high-end full service install price tag. We do offer an optional higher level service as well, utilizing a white-glove receiving and delivery company for a single delivery and installation.
If this sounds in your ballpark - great - keep reading!
I know it’s too low for the luxury market, and too high for the budget market, but will be just right for my ideal clients.
The reason for the unknown range is it truly depends on the specifics of your project, the condition of the space, the complexity of the room, the level of work I’ll need to do to develop a fitting design, and of course the client’s individual requests can really be a factor, so that cost could increase.
For example, a living room may have a few built-in bookcases that require the planning and sourcing of 36 unique accessories - that’s a lot of work! We are not going to a big box or home store and picking 36 accessories off their shelves in a couple hours - that is not the level of uniqueness, thoughtfulness, and soul we bring to each of our projects. A room that needs an additional 36 accessories will call for a lot of careful planning (drafting elevations of the built-ins so we can plan precise size/scale/shape and placement of each of the 36 pieces). It will then call for a lot of curating time (absolute best case scenario is finding a great item and then specifying it in the procurement packet with link, best case ever would be 20 minutes, but realistically more like double that. Imagining best case 20 minutes per item x 36 items = 12 hours, just for bookcase accessories) and this will have an impact on the flat rate, requiring quite a bit more work than a straightforward space would. Or, a client may have a challenging room to lay out, or want me to locate a super unusual or difficult to source piece, or customize window treatments or furniture, so there are many variables that will go into our flat Full Room Design fee.
Every room design project starts with a paid intake consultation that happens at the job site, in order to interview you in depth, to view the space or plans, to photograph and measure the room, architectural elements, and any pieces you plan to keep, to review costs and budget options, and to learn everything I can about your goals, dreams, and more, so that in the end your new space will reflect your wishes (not mine). My in-depth consultations and getting to know my clients is the reason my projects are successful and have been continuously green-lighted nearly 100% for numerous years. With 23 years of client experience I’ve learned all the right questions to ask, to get a thorough understanding of you. And clients tell me I’m a master at bridging differing tastes between two partners and landing somewhere in the middle.
I hope this helps give you a ballpark idea about a typical investment in our Full Room Design service.
I’m obviously far below high-end, luxury full-service interior design, where an example for designer fees in Massachusetts for a kitchen will be 25-30% of the overall project (so high-end designer fees would run about $37,000 - $45,000 for a $150,000 kitchen in Massachusetts). My clients spend about 1/10th of that to hire me to create my vision for their kitchen.
Now I’m not providing apple to apple service, but still for 1/10th of that cost, I will design a beautiful, timeless space, make a lot of the hard decisions, product selections, and advise my clients wisely - all for a ballpark investment of $3,895-$5,895 (regardless if it’s a $50,000 or a $150,000 kitchen). This is an enormous savings! A savings of roughly $33,000 to $40,000 that my clients can put toward the contractor or cabinet order instead. I wrote a blog post about a Danvers, MA kitchen design, so take a look at that if you’re interested.
Sure, you’ll have to be involved with the kitchen cabinet vendor (we know some great ones, and ones to avoid) and contractor, but you will get a custom, beautiful, well-designed space, with the hard decisions made for you ahead of the project, such as flooring, counter top for island, counter top for perimeter, edging detail and finish, knobs, pulls or both and on which cabinets or drawers, cabinet styles and finishes, island lighting, back splash tile, installation pattern, grout color, wall paint color, sink, faucet, stools, runner, counter top accents, artwork, and more - a beautiful NEW KITCHEN you’ll enjoy for many years, avoiding regretful selections and decisions you have to live with.
The investment in my service is far below high-end, luxury design firms, or celebrity designers and influencers like Amber Lewis of Amber Interiors who does lovely work and charges $1,250 for a 25-minute virtual consultation, or Leanne Ford who charges $2,000 for 55-minute virtual consultation, or Bobby Berk who also charges $2,000 for a 55-minute virtual consultation, for example. And I’m also not offering budget decorating service either.
There’s a place for all interior decorators and designers of all levels, but the important thing is that if I sound right for you, then great, I look forward to helping transform your home soon. My limited spots fill up fast, so I recommend contacting us soon to reserve your spot!
